Maya Guice ’12
Career: Program associate/tour manager/music curator
Major: Self-designed, performing arts administration and dance
Maya Guice has been dancing since age three, and she has no plans to stop.
Guice works for Pentacle/Dance Works Inc., a nationally recognized nonprofit management support organization for the performing arts. She is a program assistant in their Help Desk®/L.A. and Back Office®/L.A. programs, which pair artists/companies with highly experienced arts administrators, providing personalized mentorship, guidance, and support.
In another role, Guice is the tour manager for dance/theater company David Roussève/REALITY. REALITY is a dance/theater ensemble that has toured extensively throughout the U.S., Europe, and South America.
Guice also is a barista and music curator at Jones Coffee Roasters in Pasadena. She is developing a music program for the growing establishment, converting available warehouse space into a music venue. In May, she launched a monthly after-hours music series, Second Saturdays.
“I do as much freelance dance work as possible,” Guice said. She performs with the Melinda Sullivan Dance Project, a multi-discipline tap dance company. Guice recently participated in Dance For Life in Palm Springs and the Colburn Tap Festival.
Guice envisions herself as CEO of her own production company some day. “I have no idea what that means or what it will fully entail, but I figure I ought to keep aiming upwards,” said Guice. “If there’s anything I’ve learned in my short 22 years, it’s that I can’t possibly imagine what I’ll be doing two years from now.”
