Kate Sims ’06
Career: Senior designer, Molly Isaksen Interiors
Major: Self-designed, art management, minor, art history
Graduate school: MA in interior architecture from UCLA
As senior designer at Molly Isaksen Interiors in Beverly Hills, Kate Sims finds joy in exceeding clients’ expectations.
The most satisfying part of Sims’ job, she says, is seeing the design and hard work come alive. “To see the client’s response and how our work inspires their life—that’s why I absolutely love what I do,” she says.
Sims leads creative development and project management at the boutique luxury firm Molly Isaksen Interiors in Beverly Hills. Overseeing projects around the world, she meets with artisans, interfaces with clients, delegates project details, and works directly with the principal to continue the company’s growth.
Sims had exposure to museums, art management, and auction houses while at Scripps. “As I scour the world for valuable art and antiques,” she says, “the skills I gained at Scripps are beneficial to me on a daily basis.” Scripps introduced Sims to some “incredibly motivated and independent women” who inspire her to embrace her strengths and seek out her passions.
After Scripps, Sims earned a master’s in interior architecture from UCLA where she now sits on the dean’s board. Sims would like to open her own design firm in the coming years and is a firm believer in the benefits of mentoring and continuing education.
After recovering from a serious knee injury, Sims has begun to compete in triathlons with plans to start a nonprofit focused on health and wellness.
